John Raifsnider, the guy with the white beard, showed up on day one of our Route 66 drive in 2007 and gave Chris Cane a badge calling him "The Wagon Master". The name stuck.

In 2006, Cheryl and Chris Cane had completed our third, maybe fourth cross country trip in a motor home. We were meandering our way through the Sierras or perhaps it was the Rockies and realized that the roof of the motor home blocked the view!
The idea to drive cross country in our roadster sparked in my mind and like many ideas that are good ideas, it lingered there for enough time to fester for a while and grow. We mentioned the idea to a couple of friends and someone said, "I've always dreamed about driving Route 66."
Cheryl and I had seen a lot of Route 66 on cross country journeys either in motor homes, cars or SUVs and the idea for a Route 66 trip was launched. One by one our friends with open topless cars began to "sign up" for the drive and by year's end we had the drivers of 23 cars interested in making the trip. Through natural attrition, common sense, fear of butt paralysis and other reasons the group became eight cars, three BMW Z3s, three BMW Z4s, a Boxter and a Porsche 993.
Anyway, Chris & Cheryl live in West Chester Ohio and currently drive a BMW Z4M. We're involved with the ZSCCA (Z Series Car Club of America), the BMWCCA and enjoy the world of topless driving.
As we drove along the idea of forming an informal formal group that liked to do similar things came to mind. Hence the name Roving Roadsters and this website.

Cheryl and I are relative newcomers to the world of the roadster but we are well traveled in cars, SUVs, motor homes and the like across Canada and the USA. We enjoy seeing the country and we've driven to all the lower 48 states and ten provinces at sometime or other over the 38 years of our marriage.
We purchased our first roadster in 2003. It was a BMW 2.5L - Z4. We fell in love with top down driving and to this day, I wonder why we had not tried this earlier in our lives. In the spring of 2006, the floor mats in our 2003 Z4 needed replacing so on a nice spring day we headed to Jake Sweeney BMW in Cincinnati to buy floor mats. On the way to the parts department, our eyes fell upon an Imola Red Z4M on the showroom floor. We bought new mats with an Imola Red Z4M to support them. The 2003 Z4 was left in the parking lot.
