On our return from the trip, our Poet Laureate wrote a new poem to help us remember our experience. It took him less than a week to create a new masterpiece entitled "The Journey (Route 66 end to end)"
So they circled all the wagons, just west of Ole St. Lou
The Wagonmaster took the lead, said this is what we’ll do
Go West Go West, Our Route’s specific, forge on until we see
The Ocean named Pacific, California’s where we’ll be
The Mother Road will guide us, have faith and follow Me!
So they set out on the journey, eight wagons in a row
What might the group encounter, not sure, they did not know
They bonded with each other and traveled as a Team
They looked out for each other and never lost the steam
To complete the trip on schedule and fulfill a lifelong dream
They drove the wagons hard, and took all eight, in a row!
Right to the beach, Santa Monica!
When the Wagonmaster hollered, Whoa!
Yup They did it!

A
poem by John Raifsnider, July 2nd 2007
On
June 3rd 2007 The Roving Roadsters met to discuss our upcoming trip
out Route 66. John Raifsnider (now our Poet Laureate) wrote the
following as we began the trip:
They came from all walks of life
and shared a common dream
From many parts of the country
they gathered together (safety in numbers)
And forged a plan
Go West-Go West!
Their wagons were not large (two travelers per wagon w/3 lone
scouts)
but had canvas tops and lots of Horses! (to
outrun Indians?)
NO-they feared not the Indian
but would visit his land and give Wampum! (noun:
informal term for money)
They had to be good to the Indians
as there would be no chance with the Peace Pipe.
(Non-smokers-all)
When they reached the GoldCoast
They would split up and go seperate ways
Each with the Hope for Adventure
and STUFF!
Oh, and those that stayed behind
that could not committ!
Wishing they had gone.
While visiting the Route 66 Museum in Barstow California, we came across an unsigned poster on the wall. The poster included the 10 Commandments (Route 66 Style) and the Road's Prayer. We have included both below for your reverence.

Our
Mother Road! |
And around the border of "Our Mother Road" were the:
Thou shalt have no other roads before me.
Thou shalt use my pavement wherever possible.
Thou shalt not take the name of the road in vain.
Remember the road and keep it un-holey.
Honor thy Mother Road that she may live long.
Thou shalt not litter my sacred pathways.
Thou shalt honor my olde establishments with your patronage.
Thou shalt not steal Historic Route 66 Signs.
Thou shalt not speed down my righteous pathways.
Thou shalt not covet thy fellow travelers auto.
